The sport of soccer gets a horrible rap sometimes. When situations arise, like the despicable one that took place at the end of the Manchester derby on Sunday, it is hard to not criticize the sport.

Towards the end of the match, Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand was hit with a coin that was thrown by a Manchester City fan.

It just baffles me that fans are that insane. It is truly despicable that a fan would even think that it is ok to throw an object, much less a coin, at an opposing player. Now this type of thing runs more rampant in Europe during soccer matches as opposed to here in the States.

Soccer is truly a great sport. The passion is incredible and almost not matched by anything in America. However, that is also the downfall of the sport. The passion.

Passion causes people to do stupid things. Like run on the field, chant racist things and toss coins and objects at opposing players. The countries and federations must get these things under control as soon as possible. There is absolutely no reason why any of this crap should be happening at any sporting event, much less a professional sporting event.
