Thursday night was a monumental night in the history of NKU athletics. This Norse (1-6) moved to the Atlantic Sun Conference and began Division 1 play this year. Thursday’s game against Hampton (2-8) was a huge piece in that history. The Norse went to Hampton and came out with a 54-52 victory, their first Division 1 win in the programs history.
The Norse were finally able to close this game out, something they had failed to do in their previous games. They made free throws when they counted and were able to foul, up by three, with two seconds left. Deron Powers made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second. There was an ensuing scramble for the ball with it going out of bounds with less than a second remaining. The inbound pass went off the hands of a Hampton player for the Norse victory.
Junior guard Chad Jackson scored 18 points for the Norse.
The road win was huge for the Norse as they don’t play their first home game until January 5.
The Norse continue their extremely long road trip on Saturday, as they head to Annapolis to take on Navy.
