Our plans were to write a college bowl preview blog post and have a college bowl preview. Regardless, I am here to make my picks for the bowl games on New Years Day.

Heart of Dallas Bowl:

Purdue v Oklahoma State: Oklahoma State is looking to continue to prove themselves to the naysayers. The Pokes won’t have a problem with Purdue this game. FTI Pick: Ok State 42 – Purdue 17

Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl:

Mississippi State v (#20) Northwestern: Another one of the famed SEC v Big 10 bowl games. Northwestern is the better team and will pull off the victory. FTI Pick: Northwestern 28 – Mississippi State 17

Capital One Bowl:

(#7) Georgia v (#16) Nebraska: Nebraska was destroyed in the Big 10 Championship game, while Georgia was four yards away from winning the SEC Championship and heading to Miami for the National Championship game. The Bulldogs are a lot better than Nebraska and that will show on the field today. FTI Pick: Georgia 41 – Nebraska 24

Outback Bowl:

(#10) South Carolina v (#18) Michigan: This is the final matchup between the SEC and the Big 10 this bowl season. This has the potential to be a good game. The Gamecocks have too much firepower and will be too much for the Wolverines. FTI Pick: South Carolina 27 – Michigan 21

The Rose Bowl:

Wisconsin v (#6) Stanford: Wisconsin was able to snag, former head coach and current AD, Barry Alvarez to coach this game after Bret Bielema bolted for Arkansas. This is a match up between two great running backs, Wisconsin’s Monte Ball and Stanford’s Stefan Taylor. Barry Alvarez’s presence on the sideline will be very helpful for the Badgers. Unfortunately, it won’t be enough. FTI Pick: Stanford 38 – Wisconsin 24

Discover Orange Bowl:

(#15) Northern Illinois v (#12) Florida State: The MAC has finally made it. The MAC has finally made a BCS game. When this game was first announced, I voiced my displeasure. This game will depend on which Seminoles team shows up. If Florida State doesn’t seem to care, Northern Illinois will pull off the upset. However, if the Noles come hungry, they will pound Northern Illinois. FTI Pick: Florida State 31 – Northern Illinois 17
