The United States Men’s National team has been on fire recently.

The Yanks have won a USMNT record 12 games in a row. The latest being capped off with some history in their 4-3 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina yesterday. Striker Jozy Altidore became the first American player to score a goal in 5 straight matches.

Altidore fired the Americans to victory, in Sarajevo, with a 2nd half hat trick. The Bosnians had not lost on home soil in 3 years. In fact, they are well on the verge of booking a place in the 2014 World Cup.

It is hard to imagine that Altidore is still only 23 years old and should only continue to get better. He has been playing like the player that American fans have been clamoring for. For the longest time, Altidore has come across like a lazy player and very disinterested. He was considered a failure by many while playing in the English Premier League.

Altidore stepped up his game, in a huge way, last season while playing in Holland for AZ Alkmaar. His play in Holland made it tough for USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann to not bring him back in the squad. Since his call up, Altidore has not let Klinsmann down.

Klinsmann, was on the hot seat, unfairly, early on in his tenure as national team coach. Now he has lead the United States to some famous results. These include victories over Italy, Bosnia, Mexico and Germany. You can toss in some hardware as well, as he and the United States claimed the CONCACAF Gold Cup earlier this summer.

The United States continues their quest for Brazil in a little over 3 weeks, when they head to a hostile Costa Rica. The United States will need contributions from Altidore, Clint Dempsey and more if they want to continue their dominance in qualifying.
