On a beautiful night for football, the Mason Comets defeated Bishop Watterson by the score of 24-7, Friday night in Mason.

The Comets were lead by a dominating defense.

Mason forced a 3 and out on the first Watterson possession. However, the momentum was quickly lost as Mason quarterback, Jensen Harris fumbled the ball on a 4th and 4 keeper. The fumble was picked up and returned 77 yards by Patrick Pirrman of Watterson. The touchdown gave Watterson the early 7-0 lead, with 5:52 remaining in the first.

Less than 3 minutes later, Mason senior, Cameron Gunnels ran one in the endzone from 6 yards out to tie the game at seven.

The game stayed knotted at 7 until Mason kicker, Grant Kramer, nailed a 27 yard field goal, giving the Comets a 10-7 lead with 3:12 remaining in the half.

The next drive, Bishop Watterson cost themselves a chance at a touchdown after they dropped two touchdown passes. The Comets took over after the Watterson turnover on downs.

Mason wasted very little time, extending the lead to 17-7, as Jensen Harris connected with Cameron Gunnels for a 55 yard touchdown right before the half.

Each team wasted their first drive of the 3rd quarter.

Mason struck again as Lewis found Jeron Besecker for a 24 yard touchdown, giving the Comets a 24-7 lead.

Mason linebacker Andy Whitney thwarted a scoring opportunity as he intercepted a pass in the endzone, returning the ball to the 13 yard line.

The 4th quarter was much of the same as neither team was able to score.

The game ended with a 24-7 Mason victory over visiting Bishop Watterson.

The victory brings Mason back to even on the season with a 1-1 record.\
