Well, I was unable to get my Barclays Premier League Preview posted before the 2014/15 season kicked off five days ago.
The season kicked off with a stunner as Swansea City handed Manchester United their first defeat at home, to kick off the league, since 1972.
Will the bad loss to Swansea City affect United’s chances of once again cracking the top 4?
Here are my predictions on how the league will shape up.
1. Chelsea
2. Manchester City
3. Arsenal
4. Manchester United
5. Liverpool
6. Everton
7. Tottenham Hotspur
8. Stoke City
9. Newcastle
10. West Ham United
11. Sunderland
12. Southampton
13. Hull City
14. Swansea City
15. Aston Villa
16. Leicester City
17. Queens Park Rangers
18. Crystal Palace
19. West Brom
20. Burnley
When it comes down to it, Chelsea are absolutely loaded and will be battling Man City for the title. They’ve added the likes of Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid) and Cesc Fabergas (Barcelona) to bolster an already strong squad. Belgian keeper, Thibaut Courtois looks to be the number one choice in goal as well.
Manchester City is well, Manchester City.
Arsenal have gotten better as well, by adding Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez will definitely bolster the midfield and should really help facilitate the attack.
Liverpool look to be adding Mario Balotelli as a replacement for Luis Suarez. Balotelli’s return to the Premier League should add a lot of intrigue to the battle for the top four.
The key in all of this is Manchester United. The Red Devils have a lot of money to spend. However, Louis Van Gaal and United have arrived late to the party and look to now overpay for some big names. The rumors are still strong that United will add Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid and Arturo Vidal from Juventus. If United can secure both, they will be thrust into the championship picture. LVG has a lot of work to do as the talent just isn’t there right now but if they can secure a big name or two, good things will come to Old Trafford.
Another team to look out for is Everton. Roberto Martinez has the Toffees believing they can do big things. This team has some talent and could certainly push for a top four spot.
As for the middle of the table, there will be a lot of jockeying around to finish in the top half of the table.
It is save to say that Burnley and West Brom are doomed to be relegated. They just don’t have what it takes to stay up this season. The battle will be for the final relegation spot. With all of the turmoil at Palace, I can’t see them staying up.
This season looks to be another great one, as there are many battles that will be fought in regards to European play and relegation. Stay tuned for another great Premier League season.
