The college football season has been interesting thus far. Last night, Stanford continued their hot streak as they trucked UCLA, 56-35. We have seen our fair share of season ending injuries, top teams tumbled and others step up. As we head into weekend portion of week seven of the season, there are a few storylines to look out for. Steve Sarkisian has been fired at USC, while Steve Spurrier has retired at South Carolina. Now both USC schools are left to find a new head coach halfway through the season.

As always, myself and my FTI colleague Jin Kim look ahead and make our picks for some of this weekends big games.

1. Michigan looks to continue rolling

Can Jim Harbaugh continue his magic touch with the 12th ranked Wolverines? As it looks right now, the Wolverines are playing the best football in the Big 10. A victory over #7 Michigan State on Saturday will go a long way in helping them secure a birth in the Big 10 Championship game and possibly the college football playoff. Michigan State is trying to once again escape the shadow of the Wolverines and a victory would help slow down the hype train.

The Spartans come into Ann Arbor on the heels of close games with inferior opponents. The Spartans have failed to impress in their last two games, barely pulling out wins over Purdue and Rutgers. The key matchup will be QB Connor Cook and the Spartan offense going up against a Michigan defense that has drummed up three straight shutouts.

2. Can USC rally without Sark at the helm?

Another Pete Carroll assistant gone from USC after Steve Sarkisian was fired this week for another alcohol related incident. The Trojans head to South Bend to take on a Notre Dame team looking to avenge their loss last year. A victory over the Fighting Irish will help rebuild the morale that has been down in So Cal.

There have been numerous names that have been linked to the job, including Ravens coach John Harbaugh. If USC can salvage the rest of this season, that could go a long way in rebuilding the great Trojan program.
