With two weeks down in the 2016 MLS season, we can finally digest how these teams have started out. We have seen some big upsets and some incredible goals already. There are some huge teams that have yet to secure a single point. Lets take a quick look at how the teams stack up, as they head into the third weekend of this young season.
1. Montreal Impact
Definitely playing some of the best soccer in the league right now. Currently the second most goals through two games.
2. Sporting KC
Currently tied atop the west. Big win to start the season on the road in Seattle.
3. San Jose Earthquakes
Big home win over the defending MLS Cup champions kept things rolling. Currently tied with Sporting for the top spot in the west.
4. Toronto FC
The man, the myth, the legend, Sebastian Giovinco rescued a point for Toronto on the road at NYCFC last weekend. Currently have yet to play a home match but have four points of a possible six so far on the road.
5. Portland Timbers
The defending champs got the season started off on the right foot with a nice win over Columbus but stumbled on the road against San Jose.
6. Orlando City
Cyle Larin is the reason Orlando City is in this spot. Continues to shine.
7. Houston Dynamo
Four points through two games, coupled with the highest scoring team in the league. The Dynamo will look to build off this start.
8. New York City FC
A win and a draw so far for this loaded squad. Will continue to rise with the star power on this roster.
9. Columbus Crew
Tough start for the Crew. Have yet to secure a point and would be lower in these rankings had it not been for a solid first game against Portland on the road.
10. LA Galaxy
Missing Dos Santos and lost a tough one on the road in Colorado last week. Still looking to move up the ranks.
11. Real Salt Lake
Nice win at home last week against a down Seattle Sounders club. Look to build off their four point start to the season.
12. FC Dallas
Started off the season with a nice win over Philadelphia, then were demolished by the Dynamo last week. Have to think they’re somewhere in between.
13. Colorado Rapids
Secured a big three points in the dying moments of their match against the Galaxy. A win like that is one for this club to build off of.
14. New England Revolution
Dropped two points in their draw with D.C. United and lost striker Charlie Davies to injury. A rough start to the 2016 season for the Revs.
15. Philadelphia Union
The Union have three points without playing a game at home. They have a healthy and fit Chris Pontius to thank for snagging a win in Columbus.
16. Vancouver Whitecaps
Many peoples pick to do some damage in the Western Conference. Certainly are better than their winless mark but losses to the leagues best don’t seem as bad. They will rebound.
17. Seattle Sounders
The loss of Obafemi Martins may be worse than first thought. Jordan Morris is settling in but Sigi Schmid must right this ship fast, before it’s too late.
18. D.C. United
Not the United of years past but somehow managed to snag a point on the road against the Revolution.
19. Chicago Fire
The Fire are scoring goals and not getting results. Only one point through the first two games is better than expected.
20. New York Red Bulls
Tough to win games when you don’t score. The Red Bulls are scoreless in their 180 minutes played so far.
This weekend will certainly help place some of the teams as we head into a packed summer of soccer, especially with the international competitions. As they say is sports, you can’t win a title early on, but you can certainly lose one. This weekend is key for the teams at the bottom to thrust their name back into the picture this early in the 2016 season.
