The WWE is back tonight for their first PPV since WrestleMania and there is a lot of interest that has been built up for this event. After Mania there was an influx of talent from NXT, which has helped the depth on the roster. With big names such as Cena, Orton and Rollins set to come back, things will surely begin to get better for Vince and the crew. Let’s take a quick look at the matches that are set to grace the event tonight.
There’s nothing too much to say about this match. There really hasn’t been a big build up for this showdown. I think the Big Guy gets it done.
Enzo & Cass vs the Vaudevillians for the #1 contender for the Tag Team Championship
Since, Enzo and Cass debuted the night after WrestleMania, they have been hotter than a firecracker and their feud with The Dudley Boyz looks promising. Though I feel Enzo and Cass is a better matchup in and out of ring with the New Day, the Vaudevillians will be the ones who will come away with the win. One can sit back and dream of the promo work with Enzo and the New Day, but it will be The Dudley Boyz who toss a wrench into this picture.
Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler
Pretty self explanatory on this one, Corbin will roll through Dolph. One thing is guaranteed in this match, Dolph will bump and sell like a crazy man.
The Miz (C) vs Cesaro for the Intercontinental Title
I love the fact that Maryse has returned. She is the perfect woman to put with The Miz, which works because they are married, but she adds to the reason to hate The Miz. Cesaro should get the win bc he could possibly elevate the title and with Maryse back, the Miz does not need it. Look for the Chicago crowd to pop hard for the big swing.
Charlotte (C) (w/Ric Flair) vs Natalya (w/Bret Hart) for the Women’s Title
As expected, Ric has been great in his role with Charlotte. I am a big fan of Natalya, but can’t see her with the belt. You can expect Charlotte to retain but look for Bret and Ric to have a much bigger role.
Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn
This is a fantastic feud that dates back to their time in NXT. Owens has been a star and always received a great reaction since his debut. Zayn, however, has not quite received that same attention or push. The vignettes leading up to this match have been great and have given the common fan the background of these two. The crowd will be huge in this match and will certainly give it the big fight feel. I would love to see this feud continue on after Zayn comes away with the win.
Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho
Jericho is one of the best in the business and is perfect guy to put Ambrose over. Ambrose desperately needs a win here after stunningly getting destroyed by Brock Lesnar at Mania. Even though the build has been lacking for this match, it is Ambrose who stands to lose everything. A loss here thrusts him further back on the roster while Jericho can easily survive a loss. Look for this feud to continue after tonight.
Roman Reigns vs A.J. Styles for the WWE Title
This was a match where the interest level did not seem to be there until the last few weeks. The addition of Anderson and Gallows into this storyline gives the WWE numerous options and directions and the intrigue is certainly there. Is tonight finally the night we get the unveil of Styles actually working with Anderson and Gallows? I believe it happens tonight, setting up next months PPV for what is most likely going to be a six man tag match. Even though Styles will lose the match, because he has to, having Anderson and Gallows involved will add to everything this match has to offer. Knowing those two will get involved, I’m curious to see what role the Usos will have in this match.
