The brand split has come and gone and both Smackdown Live and Raw have seemed to flourish post-draft. Both brands have seen the influx of talent from NXT being called up, helping the casual fan become accustomed to their talent and ability. The chatter has been there regarding whether or not the likes of a Samoa Joe or Nakamura will be called up to the main roster as well. NXT Takeover Brooklyn will once again shed some light on what wrestling fans could see the next few days and even weeks.

With this weekend being a big weekend in combat sports, with the UFC and the WWE putting on huge shows, fans of both MMA and professional wrestling will certainly get their fix. SummerSlam is the second biggest event the WWE puts on every year and the coverage this year certainly reflects that. There are a total of 11 matches that wrestling fans can check out over 5+ hours of coverage on the WWE Network. While SummerSlam has some big matches with some big names, there are a handful of matches that were tossed onto the card just days ago, with no real build. There are a total of six championship matches that will offset those other matches.

Carmella, Becky Lynch & Naomi vs Natalya, Eva Marie & Alexa Bliss

This match was tossed onto the card Tuesday night. However, the news that Eva Marie has been suspended for 30 days, puts a wrench into their plans and most likely scraps this match.

Cesaro vs Sheamus

This is the first match of a best of seven series between these two. Cesaro is a phenomenal talent, who many believe should be on Smackdown instead of Raw. With that being said, this is the first of a many matches between these two so look for Cesaro to get the early win.

The Miz (C) vs Apollo Crews for Intercontinental Title

There’s nothing too much to say about this match. There really hasn’t been a big build up for this showdown. Apollo Crews hasn’t had the hype and buildup like he should have. His move to Smackdown will certainly help get up out from underneath the long list of talent that was ahead of him. The Miz has been solid so far with the IC title. What would a title change do for Crews if he is able to defeat the Miz?

Enzo & Cass vs Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens

This is a good match between four big names. Since Enzo and Big Cass have made the jump from NXT to the main roster, they have had a rocket strapped to their back. The promos leading up to this match have been solid as all four men can get the job done on the mic. Look for Enzo and Cass to continue their hot start with the victory over the put together team of Jericho and Owens. Once this match is over, look for these four to break off into singles programs with each other.

The New Day (C) vs Gallows & Anderson for the Tag Team Championship

The New Day are absolutely fantastic and are true fan favorites. Gallows and Anderson have suffered since the draft when AJ Styles was sent to Smackdown, thus breaking up The Club. A victory over the New Day would help do wonders for Gallows and Anderson, helping re-establish them as a dominant tag team. Without Styles, Gallows and Anderson can go from a comedy team (based off recent testicle jokes on Raw) to a dominant tag team with a victory here. The New Day will not suffer from a loss in this match. They have been hot and will continue to remain so. Expect a win by Gallows and Anderson, adding to their long list of accomplishments and allowing this feud to continue.

Sasha Banks (C) vs Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Championship

Many questioned whether or not the WWE jumped the gun by having Banks win the title, by pinning Charlotte, on Raw a few weeks ago. The title changed created a lot of buzz and provided an incredible crowd reaction. Both Banks and Charlotte are phenomenal workers in the ring and get a reaction, good or bad, from the crowd. Another similarity between the two is the fact that both have been NXT Women’s Champions. Much like their match on Raw, this should be a fantastic match. Without any interference, look for Banks to keep the title and remain a strong champion.

Rusev (C) vs Roman Reigns for the U.S. Championship

I love Rusev with the United States title. He is the perfect anti-American heel to have the belt on. Hell, he even causes the crowd to somewhat cheer for Reigns. Speaking of Roman Reigns, wow, how the mighty have fallen. With a simple violation of the WWE Wellness policy, “the man” has been punished, seeing him plummet from the top spot to the mid card. Reigns is a guy the fans love to hate. Since being forced down the fans throats as the champion, the WWE universe has fought back, not allowing him to take off. Has Reigns been punished long enough? That is the big question and it will be interesting to see how the creative team handles this. The best case scenario is for Rusev to retain and take on all comers for the title.

John Cena vs AJ Styles

This is expected to be a great match between these two hard workers. Two of the biggest names on Smackdown will continue to battle it out in the ring. AJ looks to be around for the long haul. However, Cena not so much. As we have seen over the past few months, Cena has been dabbling in some other projects. Could Cena’s time with the WWE be coming to an end? Now, that doesn’t mean you won’t see him again, it just seems like Cena will transition into the Rock role, showing up at special events and times. As is the case with every Cena match, he can stand to lose. It is Styles who has everything to lose here. A victory for Styles should elevate him into the title picture, while Cena can work on building up the next big star.

Dean Ambrose (C) vs Dolph Ziggler for WWE World Champion (Smackdown Brand)

This is a bit of a stunning matchup. When Ziggler won the right to face Ambrose for the WWE World Title, many wrestling fans wondered what the hell was going on. For many months, Ziggler has been a joke of a performer, being thrust into the comedy role and constantly losing matches. One thing is certain, Ziggler will go out and bump like crazy and put it all on the line. That is one reason why seeing Ziggler fall so far has been a shame because he is truly one of the best workers in the business. Ambrose is a fan favorite and has done a great job as champion. Even with Ziggler coming out of nowhere to become the number one contender, he would face a massive uphill battle to have fans believe in him as a true champion. The buildup to this match hasn’t been the greatest but Ziggler has come away with the best of Ambrose a few times. Look for Ambrose to keep the title and for this feud to continue.

Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins for 1st WWE Universal Champion (Raw Brand)

This match is one of the most anticipated on the card, simply for the entrance of Finn Balor. Fans got a taste of the the Demon King, Finn Balor and his iconic entrance, last week on Raw. Some fans felt they should have held off until SummerSlam. Getting fans accustomed to the incredible imagery, will only make the reaction better. Rollins is one of the best in the business and the resume of Balor speaks for itself. When Balor made his debut on Raw, after being drafted from NXT, winning the chance to battle Rollins for the first ever Universal Championship. While the buildup for this match hasnt been what some feel it could have been, it seemed to take off with the segment from Raw this past Monday. You can’t argue if either man wins this match. Both men are fantastic in the ring and this feud will certainly continue after tonight. Look for the Demon King to defeat Rollins and capture the gold.

Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton

This is the first interpromotional match since the brand split, which made things even more weird when these two were drafted to the different brands. Lesnar is coming off his tainted victory over Mark Hunt at UFC 200. The failed drug tests cast a cloud over Lesnar in the MMA world, but didn’t seem to do much in the wrestling ring. Lesnar is and always will be a huge draw. Many expected him to be punished by the WWE after his failed test after UFC 200 as it made the WWE look bad as well. Lesnar has come across unscathed since his brief MMA return. Since Orton has returned, these two have made an appearance at the other mans show. As expected, Lesnar has been made to look like an absolute beast. The same can be said for Orton. This will be a hard hitting match and a loss will not hurt either man. This match could go either way but expect for Lesnar to continue to the dominant beast.

This has the potential to be a great SummerSlam and the hot crowd in Brooklyn will take it over the edge. With this being the second biggest event on the WWE calendar and the many title matches, look for some surprises and some people to possibly make their debut. The two most notable names would be Samoa Joe and Bayley possibly making their appearances known.
