For the first time this season, we have a shakeup at the top of the rankings. The Moeller Crusaders suffered their first loss of the season, this time at the hands of Lakewood St. Edward. The three and a half hour drive south to the Cincinnati proved to be the motivation for St. Ed’s and the ultimate downfall for the Crusaders but could be a blessing in disguise. With the playoffs just a week away, a loss before heading into the playoffs could be just the wake up call that is needed. While it is always a shock when the top ranked team loses, the loss to St. Edward isn’t one to be ashamed of. The rivalry between Cincinnati and Cleveland went up another notch with the result in this game.
The biggest surprise came this week when the Mason Comets handled Fairfield 30-7, thrusting the Comets back into the rankings. Staying in the GMC, Lakota West continues to dominate, this time beating Middletown 33-7. Princeton dominated a winless Sycamore team, 42-7, setting up a huge showdown against Mason. In the ECC, the showdown between rivals Kings and Little Miami went the way of the Knights as they crushed the Panthers 37-7. The game was ugly early for Little Miami as Kings was up 37-0 at the half. Kings has been dominant all season and it continued with their rivalry win.
Badin once again continues to dominate in 2022, however this week they were tested by Bishop Fenwick on the road. The victory confirmed that Badin will again capture the GCL Coed title. The Wyoming Cowboys joined the rankings after destroying Finneytown, 65-0, to move to 9-0 on the season. The shutout was the Cowboys seventh on the season. The Cowboys have only given up 21 points all season.
Outside of Ohio, there was some movement in the rankings with the teams involved. In the Hoosier state, with the playoffs starting this week, East Central suffered a tough loss to Indianapolis Roncali, causing them to drop in the rankings. The Trojans have suffered two tough defeats to Moeller and now Roncali. As with Moeller, a loss heading into the playoffs could be beneficial as East Central heads into a quest for a state championship. In Kentucky, Beechwood got a nice win over Lloyd, keeping them in the 8th spot. Covington Catholic dropped from the rankings after a big loss at home to Highlands.

The high school football is winding down with the playoffs starting this week in Indiana and next week in Ohio. There are still some massive games this weekend. The Cincinnati Hills League title is up for grabs in the showdown between Wyoming and Madeira. Both teams have given up very few points on the season so with that being the case, the matchup between each teams powerful offense versus the others potent defense will be the focus. Aside from the playoff matchup for East Central this week, the other teams are getting tuned up for the playoffs that will begin soon. The big game in the GMC takes place at Princeton where the Vikings host the Mason Comets in a big game for playoff seeding. Top ranked Winton Woods faces a stiff challenge on senior night when they host a tough Lebanon team. Lebanon is not a pushover and will provide a tough test for Winton Woods as they prepare to defend their state championship. This will once again be a great and exciting weekend of high school football in the tri-state area.
