The high school season has been crazy so far this year. One of the top teams coming into the season, the Lakota West Firebirds have yet to find the endzone in two games. Dropping games to St. Xavier and Princeton to start the season was not expected. The top GCL schools once again faced out of town foes. The ranked GCL schools beat their opponents by a combined 136-22 score. St. Xavier went on the road to Michigan to face Detroit Martin Luther King and came back to Cincinnati with a 44-8 win. The Moeller Crusaders looked to rebound from a bad loss in week one, faced another Indiana team, Bishop Dwenger from Fort Wayne. The Crusaders thumped Bishop Dwenger, 57-0 to get back into the win column. The other GCL team, Elder knocked off Neumann-Goretti Catholic from Philadelphia, 35-14. The GCL had a great week two. Winton Woods, has continued to dominate this early season. The Warriors absolutely throttled Walnut Hills, winning 48-0 in the game. The Princeton Vikings were the latest top team to knock off Lakota West. The Vikings stepped up and have dominated this season, coming away with two wins to climb up the rankings. Two teams dropped from the rankings as expected, Lakota West and Fairfield. Both GMC schools tasted defeat for the second time this season. Lakota West has started the season with a brutal two game set with St. Xavier and Princeton. On the flip side, Fairfield has lost to both Huber Heights Wayne and Sycamore. The loss to Sycamore was wildly unexpected and caused the Indians to drop from the top 10.

This third week of the season is going to be another intriguing one. There are some great matchups around the city. The top game of the area is Moeller traveling to Indiana to face powerhouse East Central. That is the one to watch this weekend. Another good one is down in Kentucky where Cov Cath faces Simon Kenton. Cov Cath is coming off a massive rivalry win over Highlands last week so they’re hoping to avoid a let down against Simon Kenton. The Anderson Raptors face a tough test at home against Lebanon. Lebanon is coming off a loss to Milford so they are wanting to get back in the win column. Winton Woods, has shown why they are one of the top teams in the city these first two games, look to make it a perfect three on the season when they face West Clermont.
